In this photo your eye is drawn to the boys face because it is so what and the brightest thing in this photo. the boys face sort of melts into the dogs face. the dogs face is the darker part of this photo. both the dog and they boy balance eachother. because the dog is so dark you notice the boys hand comming in from the top. also the boys eyes are black against the brightness of the face. your eye comes in from the side and leads upward twords the boys hand to finish it. -Meagan Mccormack
This photograph of a zebra turning its head shows high contrast, simply due to the bright whites and deep blacks. The viewer's eye is brought straight to the blackness of the zebra's nose and mane. The eye is brought to every corner of the photograph at once because of the many stripes flowing in various directions. Vision is turned directly towards the nose and mane of the zebra due to a higher ratio of black to white. The picture in general has an even amount of dark and light space, however the eye is brought straight to where there is a higher mass of black in one condensed spot in the photograph. ~~Jackie Judge period 3~~
The strong contrast in this photograph highlights the image as a whole. Usually in a picture of a child swining, little or no focus is put on the swingset itself. But in this picture, the fact that the child, chains and swing set are all the same dark black make them appear as one unit. The sky as a whole is forgotten because it fades together in the white hazy bakground. Instead, focus is given to the energy in the child and slack int he chains. Together, the child and swingset work as one unit to make the photograph appear whole. -Mackenzie Garrity, Period 3
This photograph of the white daisy on a black setting shows contrast by expressing a clear and strong difference between the shades of black and white. The daisy itself is a very sharp and significant object, and the main center of focus in this photograph. However the fact that the dark backround is surrounding this sharp white object gives a clear example of high contrast and how it can be expressed. Instead of putting the whole image in focus, the photography focused on the flower and used the contrasting backround and focal point to work against each other. -Nicole Downing p1
this photo has very highscontrast and descriptive dtail due to the fact that it is is strictly black and white colors. it draws attention to the photo since the colors show every descriptive detail the photo has to offer. such as the line patterns, the purpose of the photo, and the design of the art. the attention that the artist wants us to see is how the pattern goes forever. it will never end and thats what captures the viewers eye. the picture as a whole is very deceving since it makes us belive the pattern will stop, but will not. overall the picture drew my attention and a job well done by the artist. randy k
This photograph shows strong contrast because the brighter whites standout much more than the grays and blacks. I really like this image because of the way the angle of the photo was taken which gives it a much different perspective. The focal point of the photo is the bright white spot where the sun is shining thru the clouds. The fact that the focal point is off to the upper left side of the photo adds interest. Due to the fact that it is so much brighter than the other colors makes standout. –Nick Robinson
This photo is high contrast because the baby's face is very light while the eyes and the background are very light. The contrast helps draw attention to the eyes because they are so dark compared to the face. Overall, the white contrast of the face puts the face into focus compared to the darker background. The emotion that comes from the eyes is seen through the contrast in the eyes. The contrast helps focus in on the face and the emotions the photographer wants to portray. - Clare Crowell
This photo is high contrast becuase there are very white, whites, and very inky blacks. There are very few greys in between. The high contrast helps bring the focus to the shape of the model and the dress she is wearing. The high contrast is very useful in a high fashion photograph such as this one. It instantly draws the eye into the interesting shape of the garment without bonbarding the viewer with a lot of distractions. - Annette Curbow
This photograph has high contrast because of how light the white is and how dark the black and there is only black and white in it, grey is not present in this picture. Since this picture has such great contrast it makes the viewer focus in on the arch way that has so much light coming out of it because it is surrounded by drakness, This the arch way is so bright a person's eye would immediately get drawn to it. Contrast is a very useful style of photography to allow the viewer to look at what the photographer intended to be the focal point of an image. -Hunter Doolity
This photo has a high contrast expecially between the lips and the teeth. The dark lips make the teeth looke even more white and your eyes are drawn to their brightness. However the light skin surronding the lips gives the picture a very intresting shape because it is easy for your eyes to follow the curves of the lips. The Contrast in the photo adds a lot to what normally is all warm colors, the blacks and whites make it very intresting ~Becca Tauscher
This photo has an extremley high contrast when based off the pitch black sky in the backround. The eiffel tower itself is able to show a significant counter balance to the contrast because of the lights that run through and on all of the iron rigs that make it up. The tower itself is also a beautiful example of contrast because of the shadows under all of the lips and bends of the tower. The white tower stands out against the night sky and makes a beautiful picture which in color may not have been seen as so amazing. -Sean Lively
This image contains strong contrast and makes a striking composition with Queen Elizabeth II as the main focus. The contrast in the photo between the dark robe and the white hair seem to illuminate the Queen’s face. The white buttons on the robe also contrast, and show rigid edges making her appear more stern and definitive. The eye travels around the photograph, following the horizontal streak of light in the sky as well as the vertical line of the buttons, standing out due to the contrast, up to the face of the Queen, pictured full of expression. Sara Reiling
This photo of a skateboarder features not only high contrast, but a very interesting composition. Most of the picture is white/light grey, so the skater's pants and shadow catch the eye quickly, even before you realize that he is skateboarding. The picture is divided diagonally by an pitch black shadow, which creates some visual interest, given the background's ambiguity. Overall, the photographer has created a very impressive image that causes the viewer to zero in on the subject, with no possible distraction by any other part of the scene. - Connor Bowen
This photo has a high level of contrast between the crisp whiteness of the festive glasses and the inky black of what perceives to be some type of boardwalk. The rich blacks, and little trickles of grey, really helps the eye focus on such a clean and vibrant focal point, the glasses. The contrast also aids in viewing the different textures in both the glasses and the boardwalk. One can see the ridges and stress on the wood as well as stray sediments of rock. One can also see the kind of "sprinkle" texture of the glasses boarders. The overall effect of this photo helps highlight a sense of solidarity and loneliness through the isolated glasses. -Dan McAndrews
This photo has a very high level of contrast between the person jumping the rocks and the sky in the background. The contrast in this photo along with the person in the air makes this photo very dramatic and appealing to the eye. The person and the mountains are a very crisp black and stand out well from the rest of the photo, while the background is white fading into gray. You can tell that there was sunlight or some sort of light coming from below and behind the picture which helped make this contrast. ~Emily Cain
The high contrast, especially in the foreground, adds a great deal of interest to this image. Most of the background is white or very light gray, so the eye is immediately drawn to the two sets of legs in the foreground because they are the darkest objects. The photographer wanted the viewer to really look at the legs and notice the intricate details, so he added contrast in order to hold the viewer’s attention. Then, the eye travels down the aisle, where the scene becomes more grayed out. I really like this image because it effectively describes people without showing their faces. The viewer can tell a lot about the people in the image just from the way they sit and the type of clothes they wear. Tori Brown
This phtograph shows a very high contrast. The pure black backround makes you contrast on teh bright white of the Bulls jersey. The phtographer wnats you to focus on the specific detail of michael jordan, and the black backround makes all of the little details stand out. Also, the shininess of the basketball stands out agaisnt the deep black backround.
This is a very interesting high contrast photo. the light coming toward the two people walking makes them the focal point and makes them stand out more. the contrast between the white and the black makes it very bold. also in the background the moon is white surrounded by black so it draws attention to it. this picture is very interesting because of the angle it was taken in, and the amount of light is used.
--syd corrigan This photo has a lot of contrast. The white teeth and the the white around the nose and chin makes the forehead look very big because there is no white so it looks big flat and black. There is mostly black at the top of the picture and white at the bottom so the picture really drags your eyes down towards the bottom of the page. The way the photographer took the picture with the body absent from the photo was a great component in this picture because it really makes the head of the dog pop. --meggie yancich
There is high contrast in this photograph of the moon. The pitch black of outer space emphasizes all the details of the orbiting satellite. All of the craters are seen as white spots in the gray of the moon. The contrast displays the mountains and ridges on the surface. These details make the photograph and would not be noticed without high contrast.

This is a very high contrast photo of a cute baby. With the baby being the only object lit, it directs your eye to the right side of the page and the sharp details the baby. The photographer’s decision to have the baby on the right side of the page instead to the center allows for a more interesting composition. The black background and lighting allows for the features to stand out and emphasize the chubbiness of the arms. ~~Amanda Borosavage
This photo displays a very high contrast at certain points. The whole bottom right part of the picture is dark with the grass which allows you to notice the difference between the grass and water. The water has different contrastics of whites and greys. The movement in the water also leads the eye to the contrast within the geese. This photograph is very well done because you can tell a lot of thought was put into it with both movement, depth of field focusing on the water and specifically the contrast between the geese. -Courtney Fraser
This photo has high contrast because the leaves and branches are black while the sky is completely white. This brings your focus to the leaves in the center clump because they are well defined by the contrst and they are in focus. It allows you to see their exact shape and the diffeence between the negative and positive spaces. Not only do you look at the leaves but you also look at the skinny branches because they stand out against the white backgroung. If these branches did'nt have a high contrast you might barely be able to see them because they are so small and skinny. ~Lilly Beardsley
This image has high contrast between the blacks and whites of the photo. When this photo was taken, the light was directed only on the man, leaving everything else in the frame black except for his face and upper body. The man in the picture has high white and grey values, where as the background is a solid black color. The black on white creates a high contrast level, drawing your attention to the man and in particular, his face. This photo was clearly taken with the intent of directing the viewer towards the man, which was done with the use of contrast.

This photo has very high contrast. The photographer wanted to illuminate the head and face of this woman so her hair and eyes are very dark and grabs the viewer’s attention and takes the eyes of the spectator off the rest of her body. The shadow of the women makes this photo very mysterious and outlines this woman and clearly makes her the focal point of this photo.

This photo has very high contrast because there is very little light shining through the ceiling.
The hallway is dark at the end and I think the photographer wanted to make the photo appear
creepy by keeping the hallway very dark.

When you look at this image, it attracts your eyes to look at the sky/clouds and the shady
regions of the car, due to very high contrast. Also, in the image you look at the car, because
the dark regions stand out in the lit up sky in the background. This image is very interesting to
look at, because its a great work of art. I like this image, because of the even amount of black
and white balanced in this photo. I also like how the image starts off light on the right side, then
gradually gets darker as it moves to the left. --John Lewis
This photo displays high contrast using the lighted and shaded areas of a staircase. The top of the staircase is extremely
bright and as you go lower it gets darker and darker. Immediately your eye is drawn to the top as it has the most contrast.
It is very easy to distinguish which areas are dark and which are light, it's also easy to distinguish the colors of the picture
as each is strongly saturated. - Cam Colella
This picture has an extremely strong contrast. There is a dark, blurred background, in contrast with the bright flower. The flower is off centered which draws your eye directly to it. The bright yellow edges of the flower and the orange center make it stand out even more. When looking at the image you can see certain things blurred in the background, but you can see a few light greens which draws your eye across the image.
-Caroline Russell This photograph shows sharp contrast between the different floors of this building in Copenhagan. Though I believe the building already holds a sharp contrast, it was added to through the use of black and white photography. This attracts attention to the repetition of the geometric shapes in the building's architecture- the circular floors with the stark contrast of the boxy stairs. ~Charlotte Chapin
Above, this photo shows high contast. The contrast between her skin tone, back ground and clothing are very high. The whites are bright and the blacks are dark. It really shows emphasis on the shadows and exprewssion. Her hair is a mix of blacks and whites. The shine on her hair is shown in white and the darkness in her hair is shown in the darks. She looks fierce and focused. The shadow on her face makes the photo very intense along with the contrast of her hair and face. -cam Corrigan
